SOUTH COLLEGIATE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
Summary of activities: May 2004 - April 2005
1. Presented South 75th Anniversary Award to staff-member Bev Baines,
along with a framed photograph of Ms. Baines with the award plaque.
2. Up-graded our Alumni Website by a) appointing Class Reps for each Grad year, to manage and up-date contact information on the website; and b) establishing a system for frequent website news content updates.
3. Published 2 editions (Fall and Spring) of Lions' Pride, the Alumni Newsletter (each Newsletter was postal-mailed to 500 recipients, and e¬mailed to 1500 recipients)
4. Provided a $2000 maintenance fund for the new grand piano at South by organizing a benefit concert, in February 2005, which featured 3 alumni musicians.
5. Sponsored a research study by UWO Grad Students on a plan to house, catalogue, and preserve the archives of the school. This study resulted in the securing of Room 210 as the permanent home of the archives, as well as an office space for the Alumni Association.
6. Presented 24 graduating students with $50 awards for achieving over 90% in their graduating year, as well as a $100 award to the "Scholar of the Year", and a $100 award to a student for "outstanding participation in sports and extra-curricular activities".
7. Sponsored a "Pub Night for South Alumni" at The Wortley Roadhouse in November 2004.
8. Began the establishment of a "Mentorship Program" by initiating a "Speakers' List" of alumni who express a willingness to speak to student groups at South
9. Sponsored the annual Alumni Basketball Tournament in December 2004, which attracted 50 players and a number of fans and family members.
10. Sponsored a student project for Education Week 2005 which resulted in a display in the front foyer honouring 10 South Grads under the theme of "inspiring excellence"
11. Appointed 2 alumni representatives to sit on a Committee raising money for a new gym floor and scoreboard
