South musicians endow school
On the evening of February 24, 3 South grads returned to the school to perform in a benefit concert. The result was a huge critical success, and left a legacy of $2500 which will serve as a maintenance fund for the new $15,000 Baldwin piano purchased a few months earlier.
The piano was financed in large part by a grant from the Alumni Association, with profits from the 75th Anniversary. It is a concert-grade grand, acquired from the Faculty of Music at UWO, which gives South the ability to host top-level concerts.
Pianists Laura Hibbard (1989) and Gregory Oh (1992) were joined by vocalist Frauke Jurgensen (1993) in a program which left the audience of just over 300 people in awe of their talent and professionalism. |
